The Center develops resources for engagement with Asia-related topics through seminars, language study, outreach, cultural competency, study abroad and visiting scholars programs.<\/p><p>The Carolina Asia Center\u00a0is a unit of UNC-Chapel Hill\u2019s College of Arts and Sciences and work with various professional schools, departments, centers and student organizations on campus.\u00a0Beyond Carolina, the CAC collaborates with regional and international institutions to develop and implement educational programs on Asia. The CBC\u2019s vision is a\u00a0<span class=\"color_11\">university community that consistently and enthusiastically fosters, supports and celebrates the achievement of Black employees at\u00a0Carolina.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-accordion-item\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-title-3168\" class=\"elementor-tab-title\" data-tab=\"8\" role=\"button\" aria-controls=\"elementor-tab-content-3168\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon elementor-accordion-icon-left\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-closed\"><i class=\"fas fa-plus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-accordion-icon-opened\"><i class=\"fas fa-minus\"><\/i><\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<a class=\"elementor-accordion-title\" tabindex=\"0\">Carolina Center for Jewish Studies<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div id=\"elementor-tab-content-3168\" class=\"elementor-tab-content elementor-clearfix\" data-tab=\"8\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"elementor-tab-title-3168\"><p>Established in 2003, the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/academics\/jewish-studies-b-a-degree\/\">Carolina Center for Jewish\u00a0 Studies<\/a><\/strong>, an interdisciplinary academic program in the College of Arts\u00a0 and Sciences, promotes a deeper understanding of Jewish history,\u00a0 culture and thought through its teaching, research and community\u00a0 outreach initiatives.<\/p><p>The CCJS focuses on the following four\u00a0core areas:<\/p><p><strong>1. Academics<\/strong><\/p><p>The University offers an\u00a0<strong><a title=\"B.A. Degree\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/academics\/jewish-studies-b-a-degree\/\">undergraduate degree<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0program in Jewish Studies. The degree program, launched in 2012, is available through the Department of Religious Studies, where students earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religious Studies with a Concentration in Jewish Studies.<\/p><p>Two\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Minors\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/programs\/minors\/\">academic minors<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Jewish Studies and Modern Hebrew \u2013 continually attract a diverse\u00a0 group of Carolina students.<\/p><p>The number of\u00a0<a title=\"Course Offerings\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/academics\/jewish-studies-b-a-degree\/\">J<strong>ewish Studies courses<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0offered to Carolina students has grown to more than 110.<\/p><p>In the current\u00a0 academic year, more than 20\u00a0 teach and conduct research in\u00a0 Jewish Studies at Carolina. Faculty members are based in eight different academic departments [Religious Studies, Asian Studies, German\/Slavic Languages and Literatures, American Studies, History, English, Romance Languages, and Music].<\/p><p>Students have the opportunity to pursue Jewish Studies\u00a0 through\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Study Abroad\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/programs\/study-abroad\/\">study\u00a0 abroad<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0programs in Israel, Argentina and several other countries. Students may also participate in archaeological excavations at Huqoq, in Israel.<\/p><p><strong>2. Public Programs<\/strong><\/p><p>Each year, the Center hosts free,\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Events\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/events\/\">public lectures<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0that bring an array of international experts to the campus community\u00a0 and general public. About 2,000 members of the campus community and local community attend our events annually.<\/p><p>The Center also co-sponsors programs with\u00a0 other Carolina departments, Duke University, and community\u00a0 organizations, to further\u00a0 enrich the student experience and expand community outreach efforts. One example is the\u00a0\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/jhfc.duke.edu\/jss\/\">NC Jewish Studies Seminar<\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0which the Center co-sponsors with several other nearby universities and UNC Carolina Seminars, providing the local academic community with the opportunity to meet and discuss scholarly papers.<\/p><p><strong>3. Community Support<\/strong><\/p><p>The Center depends on\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Giving\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/giving\/\">private support<\/a><\/strong> in order to fully realize its mission of teaching, research and\u00a0 community outreach. Generous donations have established\u00a0 endowed\u00a0 faculty chairs, supported graduate students, sponsored student and faculty research, and underwritten dynamic\u00a0 public programs. The Center\u2019s\u00a0<strong><a title=\"Board\" href=\"http:\/\/jewishstudies.unc.edu\/about-the-center\/advisory-board\/?doing_wp_cron=1371558310.0885100364685058593750\">Advisory\u00a0 Board<\/a><\/strong>, comprised of alumni and community leaders, helps guide the\u00a0 Center\u2019s growth and assists with raising private support.<\/p><p><b>4. Future Vision<\/b><\/p><p>The Center\u2019s global focus and comprehensive scope of study, coupled with Carolina\u2019s national reputation as a student-focused research university, make the program truly unique among its peers.
