The Harvey Beech scholarship is awarded annually to three UNC-Chapel Hill students. Winners are chosen based on academic GPA improvement (semester-based or cumulative) and contributions to campus life. The scholarship is open to all sophomores and juniors at UNC-Chapel Hill. Click here for FAQs<span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"has-inline-color\" style=\"color: #0e95d3;\">Scholarship Selection Guidelines<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>1. The scholarship committee shall be composed of representatives of the multiple student organizations and administrative units, and led by the University Office for Diversity &amp; Inclusion with the Office for Scholarships and Student Aid as an advisory partner.<br \/>2. The scholarship committee shall determine the scholarship recipients based on (in order of importance): academic GPA improvement from within the previous academic year (semester or cumulative for one year), contributions to campus life, and demonstrate financial need (impact of scholarship). Scholarships shall be awarded in coordination with the University\u2019s Office of Student Aid.<br \/>3. The Scholarship Committee shall award (3) scholarships in the amount of $1,500. She is a member of the 2020 Adams Apprenticeship and Dean\u2019s List Recipient in Spring 2018 and Fall 2019. During her time at Carolina, she has been deeply involved in Carolina Women in Business, acting as a mentor for club members and serving as the Vice President of Finance. Her time on the executive board has been focused on increasing opportunities and resources for women at UNC interested in a business career by working to make the club more affordable for its members. She also serves on the board of Carolina Creates, where she has worked to help students overcome various barriers in order to encourage student creativity, innovation, and collaboration. As an Admissions Ambassador, she enjoys sharing her Carolina journey by giving tours and speaking with potential students in hopes of encouraging students from diverse backgrounds to join the Carolina family. She also loves to dance on UNC Chalkaa, UNC\u2019s nationally-ranked competitive Bollywood fusion dance team.<\/p>\n<p>She will be interning with Ernst &amp; Young in the summer of 2020 as a Business Advisory Intern in their National Healthcare practice. Dimple hopes to leverage her experiences at Carolina to work towards her goal of making healthcare accessible and affordable in America. He serves as a\u00a0mentor for the Student National Medical Association Future Leaders in Health Program and as a leader for the Communiversity Youth Program. \u201cI am passionate about mentorship because I would not be where I am today if it were not for my mentors pouring into me,\u201d he says. He stays involved through various on-campus commitments, including serving on the executive board of the Carolina Sports Business Club, working as an Office Assistant at Hinton James residence hall and serving as the Treasurer of the Mu Zeta chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is also the incoming Co-President of the Minority Business Student Alliance.<\/header><header>\n<p>Xavier is interested in pursuing a career infused with business and tech. Last summer, he interned at MetLife as a Business Systems Analyst and this upcoming summer, he will work at Amazon as a Financial Analyst in Seattle, WA. He is a rising junior, majoring in Sociology with a minor in Education. Luis is a first-generation college student and the first person from his family to graduate high school in the U.S., as well as the first out of his entire family to make it as far as he has in education. He prides himself on working hard and being the best at whatever he does. \u201cMy adjustment to UNC has been long and hard,\u201d he says, \u201cbut I am forever blessed by God to be in the situation that I am in. She was a Hayden B. Renwick Academic Achievement Awardee and made the Dean\u2019s List in Fall 2018 and Fall 2019. Camaryn is a part of the Carolina Union Activities Board (CUAB) Entertainment Committee, the Black Student Movement and the Minority Student Recruitment Committee. She served as an Achieving Carolina Excellence (ACE) Legacy Leader and is also involved with Queen in You, which is a club to mentor young girls in professionalism, self-esteem, scholarship and service. Camaryn is pursuing a career in financial services because she has a passion for increasing financial stability among the African American community. Her advocacy and tenacity has filtered into her service, creating a vibrant masterpiece of positive and long lasting change in her surrounding communities. As a girl scout, Maggie completed the most prestigious award, the Girl Scout Gold Award. Her project,\u00a0<em>Tell Your Story<\/em>, focused on the elderly community. She and a dedicated team of volunteers interviewed residents of the Waterford Retirement Home in Mesquite, TX and documented their unique lives in digital and physical story book. At UNC, she is involved in a number of organizations on campus, allowing the themes of her life to guide her journey. She is a member of UNC Flourish, leading grocery store tours at a local Food Lion. Food security is an important cause for her and she volunteers regularly at Carolina Cupboard and with Hope Cooks, preparing weekly meals for the HomeStart Women\u2019s Shelter. Maggie is a mentor and advocate, and being intensely involved with the Black Student Movement has given her the opportunity to lead as the 2019-2020 Co-Chair of The Celebration of Black Womanhood Committee. She will also act as a Spark Counselor for the 2023 Cohort during her junior year. She is currently the Vice President of We Wear the Mask, an organization that targets the negative stigma regarding mental health in the Black community. Last year, she was selected to be a member<\/header><header>of the Tar Heel Beginnings Board, which develops programming for over 4,000 incoming Carolina students. Her passion for healthcare and her community has lead her to volunteer with several organizations on and off campus. She regularly spends time as a pediatric cuddler at UNC hospitals and as a childcare volunteer at the Compass Center for Women. She also volunteers as an after school tutor at a local community center. Marquise is dedicated to making UNC a safe and welcoming place through volunteering as a tour guide with the Minority Student Recruitment Committee. She is an active volunteer within several programs in D&amp;I. She has given campus tours for programs such as\u00a0<em>Dia de Bienvenidos<\/em>, helped teach classes during Tar Heel Decision Day and even returned to her high school to recruit minority students through Tarheel Target. After struggling to find her place at UNC after her first year, Afi decided to dedicate her time to making incoming minority students feel comfortable in their transition to college. As an Achieving Excellence at Carolina (ACE) legacy leader, she set out to make a positive impact on incoming freshmens\u2019 Carolina
